Introducing RelaxOn® Day
In our hectic pace of the modern life, where it can sometimes feel like we are running on a treadmill for days, feeling the pressure or we are wrapped up in thoughts like an elastic ball, it can start to affect the quality of our daily living. Making some positive changes to our lifestyle can help us slow this feeling down and take control of the situation before it escalates. Here are some ideas:
- Address the stressor- finding out what triggers the stress response is a key action to finding the solution and hence managing similar situations in the future. Take a step back to find out the trigger, it could be too many deadlines to meet so maybe to prioritise the tasks or ask someone if they can help. Sometimes it could be difficulties juggling work and social life, feeling like you have to say yes to everything. Creating a healthy balance between work – life is important and often gets overlooked. Use the support and help around you.
- Adopt lifestyle habits to support your mind and body, by making sure to include the recommended 30 minutes of moderate exercise, five times a week. Exercise stimulates the production of the feel-good hormones and gives you that burst of energy to keep you going. It also reduces your risk of chronic illnesses related to the heart, brain, muscles, bones and endocrine system.
- Focus on healthier food choices, by achieving the 5-a-day fruit and vegetables that are high in vitamin C can help protect cells from oxidative stress, eating wholegrains, some dairy foods or fortified dairy alternatives with live cultures, protein sources like eggs, oily fish, beans, pulses and some meat, choosing healthier fats (unsaturated fats like oily fish rich in omega-3) and limiting saturated fats. Eating a healthy and balanced diet can provide the nutrients needed for optimum brain function to reduce stress levels and improve mood.
- Around 80% of the brain is made up of water, an essential nutrient our brain depends on for all its functions. The recommended amount is 6 to 8 glasses of water a day or 1.5-2 litres of water a day.
- Take time out for yourself, to help you reflect, relax and breathe. Do things you enjoy.
Although you can’t always change the course of things, you can pause for a moment, take a deep breath, and relax with RelaxOn® Day.
