International Women’s Day 2020
This International Women’s Day, here at Lifeplan we want to reflect on the every day women in our lives, whether it be a mother, a sister, a friend, a partner or a work colleague, we think all women should be celebrated for their daily achievements.
There have been many inspirational women around the world, Virginia Woolf, Dolly Parton, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Marie Curie, Kate Adie, Frida Kahlo. There is no doubt these women should be celebrated, but what about the every day woman? The single mums who juggle work, school runs, after school activities, house work and lunch prep. This can all take its toll, to both mental and physical health, it’s an incredible achievement that is often over looked but these women should be given the recognition they deserve.
There are many women who are hugely career driven, striving for the top, pushing to become directors, CEO’s and company owners despite the ever-apparent gender pay gap and lack of female representation in higher positions in many companies. Women in high ranking jobs should be celebrated for just being in the position they are in, there is too often a barrier for women to be in these roles so this shows hard work and dedication, something that should always be encouraged and celebrated.
There will be many unsung female heroes out there, take a look in your own family and friendship circles, it may be important women in your workplace. Women who help with childcare or are there to talk if you are having a bad day. Women to look up to and appreciate their successes no matter how small they seem. Behind every woman there is a story of how they became who they are today and the obstacles they have overcome.
International Women’s Day 2020 is all about equality, equality for women at work and at home, but also shared equality between all gender preferences. We are all surrounded by female role models more and more and we want to congratulate and thank those women in our lives and encourage everyone to think about their own female role models, and often where you might be without those people in your lives.
