Collagen Benefits & Uses

A unique beauty supplement providing Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C and Zinc can help maintain skin. The formula provides marine derived hydrolysed collagen, which is of a high quality and bioavailability. Most importantly, it provides type I collagen which is the form of collagen primarily in the skin. Collagen is the body’s most important building block and key structural protein.

It is required for the bonding, elasticity and repair of our connective tissues, including the skin, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and bones. In terms of beauty, collagen gives skin its framework. It is vital for firm and plump skin and helps to minimise wrinkles and fine lines. Collagen consists of specific amino acids and peptides and is the strong glue that holds everything together. There are several types of Collagen with type I being the main form, which also has the most strength, being able to be stretched without being broken.

What is Hyaluronic Acid? Hyaluronic acid is not a nasty chemical but a substance our body naturally produces and like collagen, we produce less as we age. You will often see it in anti-aging creams and also cosmetic surgeons use it in injections as a skin plumper.

Is there a difference between Cow and Marine Collagen? Both are similar in terms of their amino acid profile however bovine collagen has larger peptides than marine, making it harder to digest and utilise in your body. Marine therefore has better bioavailability, works more effectively and is better value for money.

Does Zinc help the skin? Like Vitamin C, Zinc also contributes to the normal maintenance of skin, as well as the normal maintenance of the hair and nails too. It is therefore a great beauty nutrient.

What is Collagen good for?

People who eat an unbalanced refined diet that does not contain 5 portions of fresh fruit and vegetables daily, or drink high amounts of alcohol or smoke may want to choose a collagen supplement as they may have higher demands than those who lead healthier lifestyles.

Collagen helps to maintain skin, hair and nails and taking collagen supplement capsules is an easy way to absorb it along with other nutrients into your body.

  • Q: What happens to Collagen when we age?
A: As we get older we produce less collagen. From the age of 30 we start to lose collagen, our skin loses moisture, becomes thinner and wrinkles will start to appear.
  • Q: What are collagen peptides found in the formula?
A: Collagen is made up of amino acids and peptides which are strongly attached to one another by bonds. Hydrolysed collagen peptides have been prepared by enzymic hydrolysis (breakdown) of these bonds which leaves much smaller structures, called peptides. These have a much higher digestibility and absorption in the body making them easier for the body to utilise than taking collagen in its natural state.
  • Q: How do Collagen Capsules work?
A: The ingredients in the formula work in synergy together to help to contribute to normal collagen formation and help to maintain good skin. They may also contribute to the maintenance of bones, gums, the hair and nails.
  • Q: Is the Collagen high quality?
A: Yes we only use a special branded form of Collagen, which is 100% natural, safe and free from any preservatives or additives. We are exceptionally careful to avoid the formation of undesirable substances such as free amino acids, Maillard reaction products or other hydrophilic compounds that are known to impair the quality of collagen.
  • Q: What does hydrolysed collagen mean?
A: By the use of water the large helices of collagen are broken down into smaller strands and then even further breakdown into small peptides and amino acids. This makes them cold water soluble and highly digestible, allowing 90% of them to be absorbed by the body within a few hours.
  • Q: How good is collagen as a protein source?
A: The collagen we use is a very high quality protein providing 18 amino acids. Glycine, proline and hydroxyproline represent around 50% of the total amino acid content; the glycine and proline concentration in our collagen is 10 to 20 times higher than in other proteins. As a result, our collagen offers health benefits that cannot be found in other protein sources.
  • Q: Why use vegan capsules if the product contains fish?
A: We use Hydroxypropyl Methylcellose capsules which are plant based because some consumers don't like to use gelatine capsules. Gelatine capsules are typically either pork or bovine derived and may not be suitable for certain religious groups. Also pescetarians (vegetarians who eat fish) can use vegan capsules.
