3 Natural Must Haves for Summer

As it starts to heat up around the country, many of us are dusting off the patio furniture, donning our summer hats, (hopefully) applying sunscreen and setting up camp in back gardens nationwide. But just because you are no longer sitting in your living room does not mean you are no longer surrounded by living things, and in the process of protecting your food from roving ants and dodging curious bees who want to make a home in your lemonade, bites and stings are bound to happen.

Here’s a list of 3 cupboard staples that have double benefits.

Honey

One of the many things that ancient Egyptians got right, was their introduction of honey as a topical ointment. The enzymes in honey perform a healing function that makes it perfect as a natural remedy to keep when outdoors or close by during the summer months as we find more bees and wasps outdoors.

Probably best to note here, to apply the honey indoors or keep the area covered after application to avoid attracting more bees and insects.

Oats

Keeping on the theme of edible remedies, we have oats. This cereal staple miracle ingredient is now widely used in skincare products to help nourish and soothe skin. It also works as a wonderful topical paste. Either create a paste by mixing with water and apply to the skin or add to your bath and go for a soak.

Aloe Vera

Not just good for its cooling properties but can also be soothing for the skin. Once applied, the polysaccharides in the plant can help to destroy microorganisms on the skin and the unique combination of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants help to maintain healthy skin health and reduce oxidative stress. Aloe Vera also gives your skin a good dose of hydration.
